INCLUDING Project organized in Athens (Greece), from 22 to 23 June 2021, a multidisciplinary field exercise (Joint Action). The organizing institution was the Hellenic Ministry of Defence (HMOD), project's contributor, with the support of Joint CBRN Defence Company. The Joint Action was conducted in Piraeus commercial port (Piraeus Port Container Terminal).
The Athens CBRNe Joint Action dealt with counteracting an attempt to smuggle radioactive sources from the port. During the exercise extensive use of UAV / UGV technology occurred and it was checked the interoperability of the tools shared in the Federation. It was a full-scale exercise designed to establish a learning environment for participants to be trained in emergency response plans, policies and procedures in such situations.
The respective Joint Action plan was produced at the direction of HMOD with the input, advice, and assistance of WP2, 3 and 4 contributors.
In addition, the 2nd INCLUDING workshop was organized from 24 to 25 June 2021 by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
The Workshop was devoted to Nuclear Security issues and with a focus on maritime infrastructure. Following the 2 days exercise at Piraeus Port Container Terminal, the workshop put under the magnifying lens open issues in prevention, detection and response to Nuclear Security scenarios and primarily in designated points of entry like ports.
Within this framework, the Workshop has the scope to discuss:
· Strategic issues and the international legal framework
· Operational capabilities and innovation
· Cooperation between EU projects and international activities
